Heading Home...

Guanajuato, MX

We traveled to Guanajuato at the homie Carlos's suggestion. A two night side trip quickly became a 5 day marathon of supreme chilling and festivities during the town's Dia de las Flores annual celebration...

Don't get me started about the food...my record for one evening was 12 tacos al pastor and I had to stop myself...

Dia de las Flores

The festival of flowers coincided with our trip so we stayed to celebrate. All day and night the town is up eating and drinking and all the men are buying flowers to give to all the women...it was a blast.

La Casa de Dante

La Casa de Dante, GTO.

This hostel's attention to detail and labyrinth layout mirrored that of the town as a whole. Every inch was painted with bright multi-colored murals or covered in meticulously crafted ceramic works featuring suns and frogs and sayings and poems and the like. Decorative tiles covered the floors and bright blue Correlejos tequila bottles were cemented into the walls of the terrace so that when the sun was shining it was shining blue onto the outdoor countertops and tables.

It was perched 165 steps high up on a hill. Every night we returned from the town recently stuffed full of cerveza and tequila and al pastor tacos and we climbed the stairs to finally reach the top completely out of breath (GTO is at an elevation ~7000 ft).

CDMX, El Zocalo

CDMX Pt. 1, El Zocalo

Hostel Mundo Joven Catedral is where we stayed, a beautiful location right behind the main square in the city, El Zocalo. We spent three nights there eating drinking and exploring.

To gain some perspective on our surroundings and an appreciation for the size and scope of the sprawling city we walked to Torre Latinoamerica to get a better view (it can be seen in the panorama above to the very right):
