Taking photos in Maldives proved difficult owing to the heat and humidity. Any camera, film of digital, would need an "acclimation period" when transitioning from the air-conditioned cabin of the yacht Fascination, to the 84 degree and extremely humid deck. So with my SLR with the film and exchangeable lenses and viewfinder, and mirror - all these surfaces would immediately fog and stay that way for 5-10 minutes before being rendered usable. That being the case, I only shot one roll with my Minolta (even though I brought like 10 rolls of film). Fortunatly Leila serviced and brought her Nikonos V which is actually the perfect camera for a trip like this, even if you didnt plan to submerge it. It was durable and weatherproof and seemed to aclimate faster given all its interfaces were water-tight. The results are really excellent. The lens is pretty sharp and the light meter seems accurate as well. And since the viewfinder on it provides more impression than exactitude, this lead to some unexpected composition that is really enjoyable. We should have run every roll through it during our 8 nights onboard the yacht Fascination. Maldives Central Atolls 7/8/26 - 7/16/26.
